Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born on October 20, 1964, she is the 49th Vice President of the United States. She is the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in the United America. She is a senator and former US senator representing California. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. Her first job was in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected district attorney for San Francisco. In 2010, she was elected Attorney General of California and re-elected in 2014. From 2017 to 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris defeated Loretta Martinez in 2016's Senate election to become the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As senator, she was a vocal advocate for healthcare reform as well as federal de-scheduling cannabis, a path to citizenship for immigrants who are not legal, the DREAM Act, a ban of assault weapons and progressive tax reform. Her most well-known accomplishments are her pointed questions of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings.
